š 90% of Enterprises Are Already Adopting AI Agents

According to a new report from Kong Inc., 90% of enterprises surveyed say they are actively adopting AI agents today. Even more striking: 79% expect full-scale adoption across their operations within three years.
Over half of respondents already have a formal agentic AI roadmap in place, and customer support leads as the use case delivering meaningful impact for 58% of those surveyed.
Why This Is a Turning Point (Not Just Another Stat)
This signals a shift: beyond āpilots and proofs,ā many organizations are operationalizing agents as part of core systems.
But the path wonāt be frictionless. The top barriers cited include AI integration complexity (31%) and security/governance (28%).
The dependence on APIs and secure data connectivity is underscored ā agents canāt function meaningfully without solid infrastructure and management.

Kongās study is mirrored by other industry polls: PwC noted 79% of respondents already use agents, with 66% reporting measurable productivity gains. McKinsey warns that too many firms remain trapped in generative AIās āpilot paradoxā ā wide adoption but shallow impactāunless they embed agents deeply into workflows, not bolt them on.
What to Watch & What You Should Do Next
Donāt equate adoption with value: Many organizations will claim āagent adoptionā simply by enabling AI features or copilots. Real impact comes when agents automate cross-system, multi-step tasks in production.
Invest in API and governance layers early: As the Kong report states, poor API design or weak oversight can stall scale.
Plan for āagent complexity explosionā: As more agents enter the stack (customer service, supply chain, sales), managing interactions, conflicts, and orchestration becomes a first-order engineering challenge.
Measure new metrics, not old ones: Traditional KPIs (e.g. FTE savings) wonāt capture the emergent value of agents (e.g. decision speed, error avoidance, process resilience).
Pilot for depth, not breadth: Select one high-pain point (e.g. claims processing, customer issue resolution) and push an agent all the way ā not half-assed across many use cases.
