The Latest Agentic Development

Google also published a deeper technical explainer of UCP and the project has an active public GitHub repo, signaling this is being positioned as implementable infrastructure, not just a concept. Strategic implication: standards + reference implementations can compress time-to-integration for merchants and platforms, accelerating agentic checkout experiments.

Coverage on Jan 24 highlighted Microsoft’s Copilot Checkout, enabling users to complete purchases inside Copilot conversations while keeping merchants as the merchant of record, with onboarding via partners like PayPal/Shopify/Stripe. Strategic implication: “conversation → transaction” is turning into a competitive surface area, pressuring retailers to support agent-compatible checkout flows across multiple AI assistants, not just their own sites/apps.

Emergent, a fast-growing AI “vibe-coding” platform that uses autonomous AI agents to design, build, test, and launch full-stack software, has raised $70M in Series B funding led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and Khosla Ventures, bringing its total funding to $100M in just seven months. The company reports >5M users across 190+ countries and an ARR that climbed from ~$100K to $50M in under a year, signaling strong traction for agent-powered software creation.

Technology CEOs at the World Economic Forum in Davos highlighted agentic AI as one of the most discussed concepts, framing it as AI systems that execute tasks on behalf of people with steadily decreasing human-in-the-loop friction. Executives reported that agents are already live in production in multiple industries, albeit at different scales and levels of autonomy, with simpler use cases handling routine workflows and more advanced deployments orchestrating multi-step processes. The signal: agentic AI has become a board‑level theme, and the question shifting in 2026 is no longer “if” but “how fast” enterprises can safely move from pilots to scaled agent deployments.

A new equity research note on January 24 contrasted “agentic AI” exposure between SoundHound AI and Salesforce, arguing that investors should now differentiate between companies merely embedding LLM features and those building full-stack agent platforms and workflow automation for enterprises. The piece highlights Salesforce’s Agentforce stack and workflow automation acquisitions versus SoundHound’s voice-first agent platform, framing both as core plays on the emerging agent economy rather than generic AI. For the agent ecosystem, this is another datapoint that public markets are beginning to price “agentic AI” as its own category, which could lower capital costs for infrastructure and platform players that brand and ship explicitly around agents.
