The Agent2Agent Protocol (A2A), originally developed by Google for communication between independent AI agents, is becoming a hosted project of the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF). A2A is already backed by 150+ organizations and is running in production across supply chains, financial services and mobile platforms at OS scale. It now sits in the same neutral agentic ecosystem as standards such as MCP, creating a clearer stack for agents to discover one another, delegate work and exchange results across vendors.

The strategic shift: agent interoperability is consolidating around open standards rather than proprietary integrations, reducing one of the biggest barriers to cross-platform agent ecosystems.

Synchrony announced an enterprise collaboration with OpenAI to bring financing, rewards and loyalty into AI-native shopping and checkout experiences. A new Synchrony experience inside ChatGPT will let consumers discover offers, promotional financing and deals from participating merchants conversationally, while Synchrony will also deploy OpenAI models and tools including ChatGPT Work and Codex internally.

The strategic shift: agentic commerce is moving beyond product discovery toward the financial infrastructure required to complete purchases—credit, rewards, loyalty and ultimately transactions—from inside AI interfaces.

Fortinet acquired Virtue AI, adding agentic red-teaming, continuous AI validation and runtime protection to its security stack. Virtue tests autonomous agents across 50+ sandboxed environments and 14 high-stakes domains, including prompt-injection and MCP attacks, while its automated validation covers 1,000+ risk categories. Gartner estimates the market for securing AI ecosystems and agents will expand from $2.8 billion in 2026 to $16.4 billion by 2030.

The strategic shift: agent security is becoming important enough to trigger consolidation by major cybersecurity platforms, with MCP inspection, behavioral monitoring and runtime enforcement emerging as a new security layer.

Gartner predicts AI inference cost per agentic workflow will increase more than fivefold through 2028, despite falling per-token model prices. The problem is what Gartner calls the “inference paradox”: more capable agents reason longer, invoke more models and execute increasingly complex multi-step workflows, consuming far more inference overall.

The strategic shift: price-per-token is becoming the wrong economic metric for agents. Model routing, inference tiering and orchestration around cost per completed outcome are likely to become core production infrastructure.

Xpander raised a $7.5 million Seed round led by Pico Venture Partners, with Emerge Ventures, Samsung Next and SeedIL participating, while making its enterprise agent platform generally available. It also introduced Omni, an enterprise agent that the company says scored 90.9% on GAIA. Xpander positions its model- and framework-neutral infrastructure as a way for enterprises to build, run and govern agents without handing their context or control plane to one AI vendor.

The strategic shift: as enterprises accumulate agents from multiple providers, the orchestration and governance layer above those agents is becoming its own infrastructure category.

Cognizant published results from an agentic SDLC implementation for a Guidewire insurance platform, using an orchestrator and specialist agent networks spanning requirements, design, coding, testing, underwriting rules, CI/CD and observability. In the MVP, delivery of one requirement fell from roughly a week to hours, with Cognizant saying much of the gain came from eliminating handoffs rather than simply generating code faster. Existing systems including Jira, Confluence, Jenkins and Guidewire remained in place, with write actions requiring human approval.

The strategic shift: the biggest productivity gain from multi-agent systems may come from preserving context across organizational boundaries—not replacing individual development tasks.
