The Latest Agentic Development

Meta announced it’s acquiring Manus, a Singapore-based general-purpose AI agent designed to execute tasks like research and automation with minimal prompting. Strategic implication: Meta can ship agentic workflows directly through Meta AI and its business surfaces, raising the bar on “agent as product,” not just “model as feature.”

Visa and Mastercard are building rails for AI agents to comparison-shop, book travel, and complete checkouts autonomously, targeting mainstream consumer use by 2026. Early pilots have already run hundreds of real-world transactions, while card networks work through merchant concerns, fraud models, and regulatory questions about letting third-party agents “hold” spend authority on users’ behalf.

Enterprises are shifting from deploying single AI agents to managing fleets of heterogeneous agents, making orchestration and governance a top agenda item for CIOs. Vendors including ServiceNow (AI Control Tower), AWS (Bedrock multi-agent collaboration), Salesforce (MuleSoft Agent Fabric), IBM (Watsonx Orchestrate), Adobe (Agent Orchestrator), Pegasystems, OpenText, and PwC (Agent OS) are racing to own the management layer that coordinates agent goals, data access, and permissions across hundreds of enterprise apps.

Coverage tied OWASP’s agentic-app risk work to real-world examples, including a malicious MCP server (e.g., an email MCP impersonation that silently exfiltrated messages). Implication: as MCP/tool ecosystems grow, runtime supply chain governance (tool provenance, allowlists, policy enforcement) becomes table-stakes for production agents.

PepsiCo has deployed a Salesforce-based AI agent that ingests harmonized cloud data for six million global customers and autonomously suggests optimal product mixes at neighborhood level. With the foundational data migration complete, the company plans additional agents for pricing, loyalty, and innovation and expects to stitch together a multi-vendor orchestration layer rather than rely on a single provider’s agent stack.
