Machine Payments Protocol launches for agent-to-service transactions

Stripe and Tempo launched the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP), an open standard for machine payments that lets agents coordinate payments programmatically across services. Stripe says MPP already supports use cases like pay-per-session browser infrastructure, physical mail, food ordering, and machine-native climate contributions, making this one of the clearest moves yet toward real payment rails for agentic commerce.

Tempo Mainnet goes live with 100+ agent-payable services

Tempo launched its mainnet and said its MPP-compatible payments directory already includes more than 100 services across models, compute, dev infra, and data. It also disclosed design partners including Anthropic, OpenAI, Shopify, Visa, Mastercard, DoorDash, Ramp, and Revolut, which signals that agentic payments are moving from concept to ecosystem buildout.

Visa adds card rails to machine payments for trusted agents

Visa said it is extending MPP with a card-based specification and SDK, letting merchants, PSPs, and acquirers participate in agent payment flows using tokenized card credentials. Strategically, this matters because it connects emerging agent payment standards to the existing card network stack instead of forcing agentic commerce to rely only on crypto-native rails.

HiddenLayer warns agentic AI is already showing up in breach data

HiddenLayer’s 2026 AI Threat Landscape Report said autonomous agents now account for more than 1 in 8 reported AI breaches, while 76% of organizations cite shadow AI as a definite or probable problem. It is not a product launch, but it is a meaningful March 18 data point for the agent economy because it suggests enterprise security exposure is rising in parallel with agent deployment.

Board unveils finance-focused AI agents for FP&A and controllership

Board launched Office of Finance Agents, with FP&A Agent and Controller Agent now available. The rollout targets concrete enterprise workflows like three-statement modeling, variance analysis, adaptive forecasting, close, consolidation, and reporting, showing how agent adoption is increasingly moving into high-trust, operational finance functions rather than just copilots for lighter tasks.
