OpenAI has announced its third phase, aiming to make advanced Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) accessible to billions globally. This initiative envisions a "personal AGI" that acts as a deeply capable assistant for daily life, work, and discovery, moving beyond current product offerings.

The company emphasizes broad distribution of power, safety, privacy, and affordability to ensure widespread benefit. OpenAI anticipates its AI systems will handle a significant portion of its own research by March 2028, underscoring the practical application of this vision. This strategic shift aims to accelerate scientific progress and economic growth by empowering individuals with advanced AI capabilities.

New coverage published June 20 detailed Estonia’s plan to introduce state-recognized “AI ID codes” for autonomous agents acting on behalf of individuals, companies, and public institutions. The underlying proposal was endorsed by the government’s Eesti.ai advisory board on June 17 and is intended to identify each agent, define its permissions, connect it to a responsible operator, and create an auditable activity trail.

Unlike an agent borrowing a user’s complete credentials, the proposed identity system would give it narrowly scoped authority for specific tasks and data. Estonia says it aims to become the first country to establish an official national identity framework for AI agents, although implementation dates and final liability rules have not yet been announced.

The strategic significance extends beyond e-government: agent identity could become a foundational layer for secure transactions, regulatory accountability, delegated access, and cross-platform agent commerce.

Google DeepMind is implementing a new security strategy that will treat autonomous AI agents as potential insider threats. This proactive approach is being developed in response to the growing deployment of AI agents across various sectors and the unique risks they pose.

The shift from traditional software security models highlights the increasing recognition of the need for robust safeguards within advanced AI systems. This move aims to enhance the overall safety and reliability of AI agents, ensuring they operate within defined parameters and do not compromise sensitive information or systems. The initiative reflects a critical evolution in AI security paradigms as autonomous agents become more prevalent.

Lloyds Banking Group plans to hire 300 additional technology specialists as it expands its agentic AI push across the bank. The new hires will join a broader AI organization expected to reach about 1,000 people, combining external recruitment with internally reskilled staff. The bank is targeting use cases such as fraud prevention, customer finance insights, HR document analysis, and operational automation.

Lloyds says its AI deployments already generated around £50 million in value last year and could produce roughly £100 million this year. Strategically, this shows agentic AI moving from pilot projects into core banking infrastructure, where governance, resilience, and workforce redesign become as important as model performance.
